The History of Ice Cream

Ice cream is a huge money making industry. Children and adults alike enjoy ice cream, and consume copious amounts of ice cream, sherbet and frozen yogurt desserts. Vanilla continues to be the most popular flavor of ice cream, especially when that scoop of a vanilla is topped with chocolate syrup for a sundae. Chocolate is the next most popular flavor, followed by butter pecan and strawberry.

Ice cream is served a variety of ways, from the traditional sundae cup to ice cream cake, and in sugar and waffle cones. People purchase ice cream at the grocery store, traditional soda shop or ice cream parlor, or from an ice cream truck in the summer. Gelato and sorbet, as well as ice cream bars and sandwiches, are sold from carts at amusement parks and on city corners. Ice cream is one of the most commonly found novelty items. You can enjoy ice cream at the movies, at a theme park, concert, or show. This frozen treat is no longer just for dessert; it is eaten at all times of the day or night.

The most popular time of year to head to the ice cream parlor is during the summer. More men than women lick their sundae bowl clean and at least five percent of all ice cream eaters admit sharing their frozen food with their pets. This frozen dessert has become quite popular, and new ways to enjoy hard and soft serve ice cream are becoming more mainstream all the time. You do not have to be a kid to enjoy ice cream, adults are some of the biggest fans of the delicious frozen treat.

When considering where to go for ice cream, decide what kind of experience you want, whether carry-out or eat-in, or even the ice cream man. Once you've narrowed down your style, choose a few different parlors, stores, shops and stands within your budget and location, and call to get prices, specials, discounts, selection, hours, and locations. In your search for the best ice cream parlor, restaurant or store, the most effective way to find out where to get the best ice cream is simply to try it. Visit a few different frozen dessert parlors to get a feel for atmosphere and cleanliness. Ask the manager or owner how long the restaurant or ice cream shop has been in business, what the hours are, if the ice cream is hand made on the premises, if the restaurant also sells food, what specials, discounts or coupons the shop offers, and what products it offers, such as a banana splits, ice cream sundaes, malts, gelato, ice cream sandwiches, yogurt smoothies, ice cream cakes, sorbets, sherbets, layered frozen desserts, frozen yogurt, or milk shakes. Ask about fat content, as well as dairy and creamery facts, the various dessert and treat options, and whether you can try a free sample scoop. If the ice cream store or dairy dessert restaurant has a website, go online to find reviews, prices, coupons, photos, specials, and menus of frozen summer treats. When visiting each dessert store or parlor, make sure the location is well maintained and clean. Find out if the company is a national franchise or locally owned. Keep in mind the restaurant's prices, locations, food selection, and hours. And don't forget to grab that menu. You may never know when you may have a craving for ice cream.
