Tips on Becoming a Physician's Assistant
Are you interested in the work physician assistants do? Use these following tips to help you become a physician assistant.

Tip #1: Get Professional Experience in the Healthcare Field
Many people go to school for healthcare work because of the high pay these jobs provide, only to graduate and find out they can't stand working in healthcare. Not everybody is a suitable candidate to become a PA. As with most healthcare jobs, it requires a person be compassionate, detailed and stable. If you think this is the career for you, try getting some experience in the healthcare field first. Even volunteering at your local hospital helps you get a feel of the demands placed on a PA.

Tip #2: Get Good Grades
If you want to be a PA, you better enjoy school, since this job field demands high educational standards. All PA's must have a Master's degree from an accredited program, and sometimes acceptance into the top ranking programs is tough. To increase your chances of getting into the school you want, maintain excellent grades throughout high school and your undergraduate program.

Tip #3: Don't Be Squeamish
There are jobs in the healthcare field, like medical assistants, that don't require working with blood or needles. A physician assistant job is not one of them. PA's are expected to perform routine physical work, including giving shots, stitching cuts, and even setting broken bones. PA's not only work closely with doctors; they also supervise and work with nurses. If this sounds too intense for you, then it's best you consider another career.

It can be difficult to find the physicians' assistants that are right for the doctors in your hospital or office. There are, however, many health care staffing agencies that can supply hospitals, clinics, and offices with the medical personnel that they need for pharmacy, dermatologist, surgeon, primary care, medicine, and emergency services. If you look on the Internet and in your directory, you can find many of these medical staffing agencies. These guidelines are designed to help you decide which ones are right for you. When you first contact the licensed doctor's assistant company, find out how long they have been in business. Most practices choose to use those with several years of experience because they usually have access to a wider range of registered nurse practitioners that can fill their physician assistant positions. Ask the company what level of training they require from their licensed RNs and PAs. You should also ask them if they earned their degrees from schools that have dependable science and medical programs. Ask the agency if they have a list of references that you can check. This is often one of the best ways to determine how dependable the companies are because you can talk directly to clients that have used their services before. Ask them if they can give you a written quote for the services that you need. After you have talked to several staffing agencies, you should be able to compare the quotes and decide which ones meet your budget best and which ones over charge.
