X Ray Laboratories

Radiology technicians are a specialized set of professionals who have attended schooling to obtain certification in this area. Also known as radiographers, these technicians most often obtain a two-year associates degree, but they may attend a four-year program to get their bachelor's degree. Certification programs abound online and in colleges.

As student, they must take courses geared toward pathology, radiation protection, patient care procedures, ethics, and anatomy. Good skills to have include the ability to work as a team member, ability to easily manage complicated equipment, and a keen eye for detail. Quality patient care and a gentle demeanor are also pluses.

Certified x ray technicians can expect to move up in the ranks while on the job over time, from x ray tech to MRI tech. This comes with experience and lots of on-the-job training. Some end up in supervisory roles, and others go on to further their education to become doctors. Dental imaging technicians often work within a dental office, and provide routine imaging of teeth. Dental hygienists are often trained in simple radiology procedures to provide this service to patients. Conversely, radiation oncologists operate radiation therapy equipment in cancer centers.

Radiology lab services within a hospital or medical center may range from patient care to health insurance management to radiation therapy. Radiology departments can set up appointments for patients, provide imaging of bones and other bodily structures, and provide inspection services.

Since x ray labs provide such an important diagnostic tool, they are a major part of any successful medical hospital or clinical facility. Quality patient care, along with state-of-the-art machines and instruments that produce the clearest pictures, should be top-notch.

It is important for medical and dental offices to offer their patients radiology imaging services so that they can see broken bones and diagnose them correctly. In order to do this, though, you will need an x ray laboratory that has the right instruments and supplies for your radiology technician to use. If you work for a medical or dental lab that needs to purchase new xray equipment or supplies for your radiologist, then you can find several companies on the internet and in your directory. By knowing what questions to ask the companies, you should be able to determine which ones are best for you. When you first contact the company, ask them how long they have been in business. Those with several years of experience should have more supplies, instruments, and radiology systems that your technician can use. Ask the company for their contact info, hours of operation, and location. It is important for you to choose a company that is open at the right hours in case you need a tech to repair your systems so that you can provide the diagnostic procedures that your insured patients need. When you find companies that do not have the equipment, supplies, or repair services that you need, you can cross them off your list. Those that are left should be appropriate for you. Ask them to give you a written price quote for their x ray supplies. After you have gathered several quotes you can compare them to choose one that fits your budget.
