Airports

Several people are employed at airports to ensure smooth operations, from security personnel to ticket and information booth attendants. Flight attendants cater to passengers while in the air, whether for domestic or international flights. On the ground, there are people who are in charge of luggage, check-ins, passport checks, ticket bookings, and runway operations.

All of these professionals are dedicated to ensuring the safety and smooth operations of travel. Shuttle bus drivers bring passengers back and forth between the parking lots and garages, and the terminal. Online services exist as well. Each major airport should have an up-to-the-minute website where passengers can easily find times for arrivals and departures, codes, holiday guidelines, local hotel proximity, and travel restrictions.

These websites should also make readily available the airline's policies for carry-ons and luggage weights, passport regulations, TSA presence, and holiday fares. Many websites advise passengers on how they can move through security lines faster, how to handle children in the whole process, where to get food, how to check-in quickly, and other pertinent information. Also, what is allowed on planes is another concern for many passengers. They should be able to obtain this from airport representatives, along with information on international flights and terminal locations.

People working in the airline industry should be personable, with excellent customer service skills, technical proficiency of the job at hand, and a gentle, calming manner when working with customers. Company representatives and receptionists at airports are quite simply the face of the airport or airline, and need to put forth a stellar company image.

Pilots are a major component of the travel industry, and must put in the many hours of flight time and schooling necessary to obtain a pilot's license. Airports should be efficient, with as many on-time flights as possible to ensure customer satisfaction.

When you call most airports, you usually get a menu that provides several options where passengers can get information about airlines, arrivals, and departures, hotels, and car rentals. Depending on the information that they need, though, passengers might need to contact their airlines instead of the airport. When passengers are planning their vacations and business trips, they should contact the airlines or airports about different arrival and departure times, hotels in the cities that they will be visiting, and ground transportation through car rental companies that they might need while they are on vacation. Not all airports are big. Some, in fact, are quite small. These airports often have avionics and aviation training schools where pilots can learn new skills and keep in practice so that they know how to control their air crafts while they are soaring through the sky. These airports have to follow many regulations to make sure that they are safe for pilots and passengers. They often have maintenance crews that are trained to repair kit planes and plane engines with repair parts, weather experts that can determine if it is safe for planes to fly, lawyers who can interpret regulations and make sure the airports and airlines adhere to them, and even doctors that can provide emergency medicine to those who need them. When you contact a small airport because you need information about flight training, then you should ask to speak to someone that runs the programs. See if they have a brochure or web site that you can visit to get more information about the training that they provide.
