Questions to Ask When Searching For a Pet Sitter

Finding the right care for your pet while you are out of town is essential. There are many pet sitting and boarding options available for you to choose from. These options may include a home-based business or a kennel. Before you decide on who you would like to care for your cat or dog, ask yourself the following questions.

  • What type of pet do you have?
Most pet sitting services can handle cats and dogs. If you have other pets such as reptiles and birds, you may need to find a specialized company. Perform a search online for the type of pet you have. Find out what services they offer and if this will be sufficient for your pet.

  • What kind of care does your pet need?
If your pet does not require a lot of attention, you may be able to find a cheaper alternative. Any kind of sitting or boarding service will offer food and water. Some sitters will walk your canine during the day. You likely won't receive that service if you take your pet to the kennel. If your pet requires medication, you will need to make sure that the person is capable and willing to administer the necessary treatment.

  • Are there any other services you would like?
Depending on where you decide to take your pet, you may have other optional services to choose from. These services will include grooming or obedience training. By opting for additional services you may receive an overall discount. If you were looking for either of these services anyways, then this will be a good opportunity to save money.

Many women and men work at pet boarding houses and animals sitting kennels. After all, this can be a lot of fun, and is an ideal job for individuals who really love animals. When you work at these care facilities and day spas for cats and dogs, you may have to groom, brush, and train certain animals. There are a number of feline and canine breeds that these care facilities deal with, and pet owners expect you to take really good care of their animals. This means providing the dogs and cats with a clean cage, and enough food and water to stay healthy.

You may need some initial training in order to work for a pet kennel or animal boarding facility. After all, it does require some expertise to watch or sit animals. Some of the tasks you may have to handle are walking dogs, grooming cats, and helping pets exercise each day. While you may need to assist a puppy with obedience training on one day, you may need to watch dogs as they run in an enclosed environment the next day. If you choose to work in this business, you may be employed at a hotel for pets in the city, or even a country farm facility that boards animals. Many people will drop off their cats and dogs when they travel for several days.

You can certainly expect to care for a lot of different breeds of dogs and cats when you work in this exciting field.
