Terms Related to Magazine Publishers
The following are some terms that are related to magazine publishers:

Audience: A magazine’s audience refers to how many people are exposed to it. Just because someone is part of a magazine’s audience does not necessarily mean that that person actually read the publication.

Bulk Circulation: Bulk circulation refers to one individual who receives two or more copies of a single issue of a magazine. These copies are then sold or otherwise distributed to other people.

Circulation: Circulation refers to how many copies of a magazine are sent out by the publisher. This is not a guaranteed number.

Composition: The composition of a magazine is its demographic profile. For example, many publications containing household cleaning tips and recipes have a demographic made up mostly of older women who are probably also mothers.

Controlled Circulation: A magazine’s controlled circulation refers to the issues it send out to individuals free of charge. These individuals are voluntary recipients of the subscription.

Duplication: Duplication refers to how many of the same people have subscriptions to similar magazines. For example, a girl who subscribes to a different teen fashion magazines and a literary publication is a duplication.

Net Paid Circulation: Net paid circulation is the number of printed magazines that have been paid for. This refers to both subscriptions and the sales that occur at newsstands and in bookstores.

Rate Base: Rate base is a method of determining the cost for a company to run an ad in a magazine. Rate base is dependent on the periodical’s circulation, which is not necessarily a guaranteed number.

Single Copy Sales: Single copy sales refer to the print copies of a magazine that are sold at newsstands, in bookstores, and through other retailers. Subscriptions are not factored into this tally.

Split Run: Split run refers to a technique used by magazine publishers in which a single issue has two different sets of advertisements. This means that the advertisements that one subscriber views may be different than those viewed by another.

Get contact information from a few different magazine publishers and set up appointments. Take note if the professional is timely, accommodating, and friendly. Ask to take a tour of the facility, and inquire as to specific services offered. Make sure the magazine specializes in the type of goals your corporation, organization, or institution holds dear. If you decide to advertise in a weekly or monthly magazine, choose one that reaches your marketing demographic, such as fashion, art, financing, prevention, business plans, sales, special interest, women, men, corporate, finance, photographs, or art. Find out if the magazine publisher is nationwide or local, and if it has any business affiliations. Do your research and decide which type and design of magazine advertising your business or company would benefit most from, whether an online entity or hard copy, and then narrow your search down accordingly. Stick to your budget above all, but also make sure you choose a reputable magazine publisher—one that is truly respected in the business with many years of experience. Before choosing a magazine publisher for your corporation or company's custom corporate marketing campaign, consider your target market, location, subscriptions, custom services, online demographic, and circulation of the advertising. Ask to see a portfolio of previous work to ensure consistency of style. This will help you decide whether the magazine publisher is the right one for you. Get rate quotes in writing before committing to a publisher. If you need back issues of current or past weekly or monthly magazines, contact the magazine directly.
