Frequently Asked Questions about Campgrounds
If you are looking for a campsite for your next trip, then consider these frequently asked questions:

Does the campsite have RV utility hookups?
Some campgrounds have RV hookups for electricity and water. They might also have hookups that allow campers to empty their RV's sewage tank.

Are pets allowed on the campgrounds?
Some campgrounds allow pets, but others do not. In many cases, dogs must be kept on their leashes when away from a camper's site. It is best to contact campgrounds before visiting to decide whether you can take pets.

Does the campsite allow fires?
Cooking in open nature is a fun part of camping for many people. Many campsites allow fires during certain seasons. If conditions are dry, though, they might restrict fires. Some campgrounds have fire pits that allow campers to enjoy fires without endangering the surrounding area.

Do you need a permit to camp?
Most parks require campers to get permits, especially if they plan to spend the night in the nature. Mountains, woods, and deserts can quickly become dangerous environments, so park rangers need to know how many people are camping at any given time. Permits might also help pay for the park's upkeep.

Does the campground offer vacation services?
Many campgrounds just give campers a place to pitch their tents. Others, however, have extensive services that help visitors take advantage of hiking trails, lakes, and other outdoor attractions. They might even have groups lead by someone experienced in back country camping. This could help keep hikers safe while showing them the most interesting parts of a forest.

If you have an interest in running a campground, there are a few things you should consider. The first is whether or not you want to run a campground in a national or public park, or start your own private company. A park offers the advantage of already being a popular vacation destination, but they also come with established rules and regulations.

You will need to outfit your grounds depending on the nature of your camp offers. If you plan to run an RV park, you may want to put rules in place that regulate the storage of boats and motorcycles. You will also have to set camping rates based on whether the bathrooms are private or public, and whether or not your site offers cabins.

Even if you decide to open a park that only allows outdoor tent camping, you should still offer an activity list to your guests so that they have a variety of options to stay entertained. This list will be dependent on the environment around your site. In a forest, for example you may offer backpacking or a boating trip down the river or in the lake. In the desert, hiking or a trip to an historic Native American site may be exciting for the whole family. If your site is near the beach, you could teach your guests to water ski.

Whether you decide to work for a national park or establish your own private site, a career in campgrounds management will allow you to enjoy the outdoors, and provide a great experience for your guests.
