Tip #1: Research the organization
Your donations will make the most difference if they are sent to just one group. Unfortunately, there are individuals who pose as representatives of charity or non-profit organizations so they can take advantage of generous people. Don’t be taken in by solicitors, whether they are on the phone or outside the local grocery store. Never give away your credit card or bank account information to an unconfirmed representative.

During your research, you should have obtained contact information for your charity or non-profit group. Make sure all donations are mailed or taken directly to the organization’s office. Sending a check is the best way to ensure your donation is received by the correct group. Just make sure you know exactly who the check needs to be made out to.
