Questions to Ask the Vet/Animal Hospital
Don't compromise the health or safety of your pet by not by not taking time to research vets and animal hospitals. Sometimes the cheapest vet or animal hospital may seem like the best choice, but cheaper doesn't always mean good care. Make a list of questions to ask the vet or animal hospital in order to find the place that's right for your pet. Finding a vet and/or animal hospital is imperative in case your pet has an emergency.

Use the following questions to aid in your search for a veterinary center or animal hospital:

  • What types of animals do you care for?
Some vets only care for dogs and cats, while other vets may also treat birds, horses/equines, rabbits, birds and other large or small exotic pets.

  • What's your experience in handling animals like mine?
Your pet may be exotic or a commonplace household pet. Some vets don't work with reptiles or small mammals. Find out if they are used to healing dogs with rattlesnake bite, for example. This way you know they have vaccine on hand.

  • What's the best way to care for my pet to maintain good health?
Good health for pets are based on nutrition, exercise and regular vet visits. Good health routines for amphibians are different for ones for felines. Your pet may need more calcium and less iron. Your pet may also require more protein in his diet.

  • What grooming and dental habits do you suggest for my pet?
Rabbits may need to have chewing toys that help them file down their teeth naturally. Longer hair pets may need regular brushing to prevent tangles that may cause skin problems. Knowing how to keep their teeth in good shape protects their digestion of nutrients.

"I took my cat in for a surgery not even the Specialist at Cooper City wanted to perform without a $3000 deposit. The Dr. took on this very difficult surgical procedure and saved my cat's life at less than half price quoted at other hospitals. When other places around the area told me to put my Abby down, he promised he'll try his best to save his life and he did. I'm immensely grateful for your he ..."

"I do not know who the owner of this place is, but he hires staff that should not be working at a Veterinary Hospital. I walked in to find a guy and the receptionist engaged in conversation about their love life and paying only minimal attention to my reason for being there. Then, I had to wait for a doctor, who was in such a hurry to finish. She seemed to be in a hurry to go home! Maybe it was ju ..."

Many women and men work in animal hospitals as veterinarians, technicians and assistants. This can be a fun and rewarding field, and it allows you to work with all sorts of small dogs, large horses, and exotic birds. Working at an animal clinic or pet emergency facility is certainly wonderful for many people who care a lot about animals of all shapes and sizes. After all, when you work in this field, you get to help pets with various health conditions and injuries. While some dogs, cats and rabbits may only require routine examinations, others will need specific vaccines. You definitely need a certain degree of education and training in order to work as a veterinarian or animal clinic technician. The amount of training you need depends on your job title. As a licensed vet, you will need six to eight years of schooling. In this line of work, you may be employed at an animal shelter, 24 hour emergency clinic, or local pet care facility. You will not only deal with common house pets like dogs and cats. You may also handle exotic birds in this line of work, and maybe even horses. Sometimes in order to treat horses, you need a specific type of equine training. As a vet or animal doctor, you will sometimes have to perform surgery on specific dogs, rabbits, or felines. If you choose to work in an animal shelter, pet care center, or vet hospital, you can certainly expect to deal with a lot of pet owners each day. After all, it is your job to treat all kinds of animals, and make certain they are in good health.
