Taxidermists

There are a number of individuals that choose to become taxidermists. Although this field is rather exclusive, taxidermy is appreciated by many people all over the world. Professionals in this line of work tend to get involved with wildlife like bears, massive fish, elk, lions, deer, and even birds. This is because many clients want their trophies from a hunting trip or fishing adventure stuffed and mounted. Since there are not a high number of individuals working in this business, there may be more clientele than in other fields.

There is a certain level of training and knowledge involved with becoming a taxidermist. As you may already know, this is not a common college course taught in universities. You can actually learn all about taxidermy over a six-week period in the right school. That is how long it takes to become educated and certified. You will acquire knowledge on preserving dead animal skin, stuffing properly, tanning hides, painting glass eyes, freeze drying, and sculpting artificial teeth. You will need to obtain certain supplies to properly preserve, carve, stuff, and mount pets and wildlife, such as cats, deer and birds. The skulls and skeletons, for example, must be removed with care so that the lifelike creatures can be posed like mannequins. This is a very delicate process that takes time to perfect. However, many people will pay a lot of money to those who do it well.

If you choose to become a taxidermist, you will deal with a variety of clients that need their pet or hunting trophy stuffed to display in their home or office.

Hunting and fishing might be an enjoyable pass time for you, but if you want trophies to show off the big game, fish, and birds that you have caught, then you might need the services of a taxidermist. Those who are experts in taxidermy should know methods for preserving and stuffing fish, deers, ducks, bears, birds, and other wild animals. When you contact the taxidermists, ask them how long they have been in business. Those with several years of experience can usually offer the best services at the lowest prices. Ask the taxidermy specialists if they have prior experience stuffing and preserving the types of big game, fish, birds, and big game animals that you hunt. When you find someone that has plenty of experience with your fishing and hunting interests, then you can be fairly certain that you will get the services that you need so that you can proudly display your trophies in your home, above a bar, or in a commercial building. Ask the company what types of mounts they have that you can choose from. You will want a wide selection so that you can pick mounts that look good with your stuffed animals and the room that you want to display them in. Ask the company if they provide written quotes for residential installations so that you can compare the costs of using different companies. When you find a taxidermist that you might be interested in, be sure to ask them for their locations, hours of operation, and contact information so that you will know the best way to contact them in the future.
