If you need to visit an eye care professional, then these questions will help you to choose a doctor or optometrist that will be affordable, experienced, and caring. You will also want to choose a laser eye surgeon with a good track record so that you will feel comfortable.

  • Will my insurance cover an exam and prescription?
    Not all insurances will cover clinical visits. After you give your information to the receptionists, they should be able to tell you whether or not their tests and treatments will be covered. Some procedures aren’t covered either, such as cataract surgery, glaucoma treatment, and lazy eye correction.

  • Will Lasik eye surgery help my vision?
    You should ask the surgeon this during your first appointment. Not all vision correction is necessary. If the prescription is light, then surgery may not be necessary and the risks would outweigh the positive impact.

  • Would glasses or contact lenses be better for me?
    Contact lenses can cause redness and irritation in some people. Unfortunately, there’s no way to tell if this will happen unless you try it. For others, glasses are too annoying and can also irritate the skin because the individual is not use to the metal or plastic parts.

  • Do you have a website with reviews or references on it?
    You want to be sure the doctor, optometrist, or optician you visit has a good track record and meets your needs. If you don’t you might just end up with a doctor that will give you a bad prescription or is too hesitant to recommend laser surgery. An ophthalmology or optometric center should provide you with the best care possible.
