Terms Related to Analytic Laboratories
The following are some terms that are related to analytic laboratories:

Aliquot: An aliquot is a part of a laboratory sample that has been properly measured and, typically, recorded.

Analyte: An analyte is a substance or a characteristic of a substance that is to be established or studied through experimentation.

Analytical Chemistry: Analytical chemistry is used to identify the qualitative and quantitative properties of a substance. The substance being tested is typically separated before scientific research begins.

Buffer: A buffer is solution composed of an acid and its conjugate base. This solution is effective in determining the pH level of a liquid.

End Point: The end point of an experiment is when an indicator has experienced a chemical reaction.

Field Duplicate: A field duplicate is a second sampling that is taken at the same place, same time, and in the same manner as the first sampling. Field duplicates are usually used to check sampling procedures.

Indicator: An indicator is the substance that alters during experimentation. This alteration, typically a color change, shows that the indicator has experienced a chemical reaction.

Qualitative Properties: The qualitative properties of a sampling refers to the different chemicals that can naturally be found in the sampling. In an analytic laboratory, these chemicals are identified.

Quantitative Properties: The quantitative properties of a sampling refers to the natural abundance of a chemical within a particular sampling. In an analytic laboratory, the abundance of a chemical in a sampling is determined.

Standard: A laboratory standard is a sample that has already underwent complete analysis. Standards are typically used to calibrate laboratory equipment.

There are men and women that work for analytical laboratories all over the world. In fact, this can be a very interesting and exciting field to get into. Not only do you get to work with analysis tools and testing equipment, but you also get to handle a variety of chemicals and substances that must be examined closely. It is your job to determine what physical properties and element portions are found in various perfumes, food products, cosmetics, and environmental soil samples. This can be a challenging job at times, and it often involves using chemistry formulas, unique analysis instruments, and mass spectrometers that measure the mass of particles in a product or substance.

You will need a certain college degree and education in order to work for an analytical laboratory. Often professionals in this field have chemistry degrees. As an expert in this industry, research and data collection is very important. You will need to make certain the calibration of all testing equipment and analysis machines is correct before using them. While you may need to determine the nutritional value of some kind of food on one day, you may need to find out more about the characterization of a certain environmental soil sample on the next day.

You will often work with herbal skincare products, pharmaceutical drugs, and various foods in this line of work. You may need to handle thermal testing tools that assist with element separation, as well as microscopes that help you learn the physical properties of certain chemicals or cosmetics.
