    If you are good at installing wiring, consider becoming an electric contractor. An electric contractor can work on residential or commercial properties. You would work alongside the general contractor on home construction sites.

    On a typical day, you might install an electrical panel or perform repairs. You could work to help upgrade the wiring in an old home, or work on a new building. You might repair a client’s indoor or outdoor lighting. You could even put in an emergency generator and exterior lights.

    At times, you could be working at a construction site getting wiring in a new home. You might also respond to call that a client is having problems getting power, or has an electrical emergency.

    You will need to get a license to become a contractor. To do so, you need to go to a technical school or university where you will learn to install electrical panels and maintain them. Some of the skills you might need include math, science and engineering. You will then have to decide if you want to work independently or connect with a company.

    Whether you are working on a private house or a large office complex, you should always be aware of your clients’ safety. There are many laws in place that protect both your clients and your company in emergency situations.
