Electronic Equipment and Supplies Repair

Hobbyists may specialize in working with a lot of their own repairs. Stores are also available that specialize in selling the required parts and supplies necessary for these repairs.

Most people hire a technician or mechanic to handle their repairs. TV and computer repairs are an important part of the industry to work with. Other companies may specialize in working with medical and dental devices, laboratory instruments or cameras.

Electronic repair technicians require either vocational training and a degree in their studies. Two and four year degrees are available from community colleges and vocational schools. Technicians need to know how to fix and maintain a variety of devices. They need to know what supplies to request for any given job. They also need to know how to use and maintain various pieces of equipment used in their line of work, such as circuit testers. They may have to handle both digital and analog devices and know how to conduct tests.

Some technicians may be hired by used electronic stores to fix items before putting them on sale or to strip them down for parts. In this case, an understanding of older and obsolete equipment, such as tube-based TVs, is necessary. Computer technicians may be required to have a basic knowledge of software. Technicians also need to know how to handle electrical safety.

Most technicians work for a repair shop, and some may also work for a large company, laboratory or hospital. Others may work for a manufacturer or distributor of electronic products or a cable or telecommunications company.

Salesmen may sell services, finished devices, or parts and components. Repair shops may also hire personnel to handle warehousing.

Electronics repair is a stable industry and one in which there will likely be demand for the foreseeable future.

Dental offices and medical testing labs use electronic equipment and supplies repair shops because they have mechanics who know details about fixing digital and analog medical equipment that is used for testing hospital patients. Even if your store does not have electric lab equipment that performs life saving functions, you should still find an experienced shop in your town that can maintain and fix your equipment and supplies like cameras, computers, and stereo components. When you contact an electronic equipment and supplies repair shop, you should ask them if they have any experience working on the types of products that you have in your store. This might include analog and digital components that use conductors and circuit boards. If they have worked on the type of equipment that you have, then they should be prepared to work on whatever problems you experience by testing the electric machines for failures and installing used or new repair parts. Ask the shops what part sales suppliers they use to make sure the repair parts that they will put in your instruments are reliable. If you are satisfied that they can perform the work that you need, then you should ask them for a price quote. Find out how much they charge for labor. If you know what problem you are currently having, then ask them to estimate a price for the repair parts as well. After you have talked to several mechanics, you should be able to tell which ones have the best prices.
