Terms Relating to Convenience Stores
Convenience stores are a great place to pick up a newspaper, a snack and drink, or even some much needed groceries or toiletries. Convenience stores are typically located at a gas station. The following are some terms relating to these businesses.

Branded Fuel: Branded fuel is gasoline that has an easily recognizable name attached to it, like BP or Shell, and is sold to the general public.

Canopy: This is the structure that covers the pumps and pump islands at a gas station. The canopy not only protects the customers from rain and snow, but also the pumps.

DTW: DTW is short for dealer tank wagon. This is the bulk cost of gasoline from the supplier to the retailer. This price does include transportation costs.

Jobber: A jobber, or wholesaler, is an indirect fuel source for convenience stores. The jobber is not affiliated with the oil company. The gasoline sold by jobbers may come directly from the oil company, or it may come from yet another indirect supplier.

Marketer: A marketer is any person or business that sells fuel, regardless of whether the fuel is branded or unbranded.

Rack Price: The rack price of gasoline is based on the current market value of the gasoline, plus expenses like transportation and profit for the supplier. This is the price that retailers pay when they receive their fuel directly from the oil company.

Retail Price: The retail price is how much customers pay retailers for gasoline. This price will be higher than the rack price paid by the retailer.

Spot Price: The spot price of gasoline is the cost of the substance on the market. Gasoline’s spot price greatly influences its rack price.

Countless individuals are employed at convenience stores across America. As a professional in this line of work, you commonly handle all kinds of groceries, toiletries, magazines, and liquor. Convenience store owners are essentially retail product and snack food distributors. After all, when employed with a major convenience store chain or individual market location, you will likely stock shelves, sell gas, and mark countless items with sale stickers. Regardless of where you live, there is a good chance of convenience store jobs being available in your area. This is a very big business in the United States, and one that calls for a large number of workers.

There are all kinds of convenience stores these days that require sales clerks. While some of them do sell gas, others only market basic groceries, toiletries, magazines, and cigarettes. Depending on which one you work at, the shop or market could be open until 10 pm, or it could stay open 24 hours a day, which will have an impact on your shifts. There is some training involved with working at a convenience store. This way, you will know how to make sales, display magazines, ring up snack products, stock foods or beverages, and handle inventory. As you may know, some convenience store businesses offer beer and liquor, while others do not. If the business you work at does sell liquor, you will be responsible for carding, or seeing the IDs of customers who purchase it.

Any time you work in a convenience store, you will likely work with some managers and fellow employees. You will also have to deal with plenty of customers each day.
