Questions to Ask Before You Purchase a Vacuum Cleaner

It may not be sufficient for a customer to rely solely upon popular name brand commercial vacuum because brands have many different models for residential, commercial and industrial use. Features and attachments for vacuum cleaners vary according to type too. For example, vacuums can be backpack or stick models. Some machines can lift liquids. Other vacuum cleaners are only for bare floors at home. Here are some useful questions that will help you narrow down your choices.

  • What surface will you be cleaning?

Outdoor industrial sweeper vacuums are great for collecting gravel, broken glass and nails. This may be perfect for contractor. However, you might want to sweep up indoor kitchen waste in your apartment so you may want a bare floor vacuum or attachment. Maybe your clients have a bare break room floor and commercial carpet. Know what pile of carpet or smooth surface your upright machine can handle.

  • How often will you clean these surfaces?

Maybe you will clean up gravel every day several times a day each time you are ready to leave a worksite. This will mean you need a durable machine that can take continuous use. In another example, you may need a tool to once a season for deep cleaning for nooks and crevices of your home. This will determine what portability of vacuum will be appropriate. If you rarely take out the cleaner, it can be heavy and difficult to carry. If you use a vacuum cleaner often, then you may need to purchase a lighter or self-propelled model.

When you decide to make a vacuum purchase, decide which accessories, commercial polishing filters, capabilities, and spare parts are important to you. If you are going to use the machine for an upholstery cleaner as well as a carpet cleaner, it needs to have the appropriate attachments; sometimes these attachments also work well on the stairs or in the corners of rooms. Commercial style upright machines work great and usually last for a long time; however, polishing, asthma control, mold, products, flow, purifiers, floor care, finding replacement parts and repair professionals may not be as easy as it usually is with residential equipment. People who are concerned with how the vacuum will affect an air allergy should ask the salesperson to describe any available hypoallergenic accessories, such as hepa air filters or other attachments. Dust and dander tend to gather in plush carpet, and the disturbance of the vacuuming often causes them to remain in the air for some time after you have finished cleaning the floor. Some vacuum retailers can therefore point you in the direction of an appropriate air filter, which should be used soon after the vacuuming in order to capture these allergens. All retailers should be able to give you an idea of where you can purchase spare parts, should your vacuum begin to stop functioning properly. If they do not do so prior to the sale, be sure to ask about how to buy new parts, if there are available warranties, and if there is a local repair shop that regularly works on the brand of machines.
