In order to become a septic pumping contractor, you must first understand the septic system. This usually means you have a plumbing license and are somewhat knowledgeable about system installation, maintenance, and repair. Receive general maintenance plumbing training. Then learn specifics about pipe connection and grease traps. Practice fixing broken tanks. Know the proper depth of pits for drainfield installation.

In addition to these qualifications, some states require an additional septic tank contractor permit so the state knows you are disposing of the waste water at the proper treatment plants or certified disposal sites. These permits usually have to be renewed every year, cost approximately $200 per renewal, and apply to any provider who deals in the removal and disposal of septic tanks.

Concrete pumping doesn't take nearly as much schooling, but it does require a certain amount of expertise to perform concrete installation. The American Concrete Pumping Association (ACPA) offers the only nationally recognized certification in the field and while it's not required in order to get jobs, it may cause customers to switch to you if you own your own company. Additional concrete pumping certification and membership with respected trade organizations can also attract more customers. Already established providers may be more likely to hire you if you have this certification when applying. The exams offer certification in a number of areas, including the types of concrete pumped onto the surface, cleaning and repairing the equipment. Technicians can also be tested on pour and placement patterns to restore already established concrete.

If you have a septic tank, sewage drain, pumping pipe, pit, solid waste system, grease trap, or other system that needs to be repaired, then you might first need a pumping contractor that can clean the area by removing liquids before restoration begins. There are lots of pumping contractors that you can choose from. Some people find that there are so many in their area that they cannot decide which ones to choose. By following these guidelines, though, you should be able to determine which pumping contractors can give you the installation, repair, maintenance, and restoration services that you need. Ask the company how long they have been in business. Working with sewage, plumbing, filters, ground surface switches, and other sewage can require a lot of experience. Those pumping providers with several years of experience should know more about proper installation and restoration for the type of system and problem that you have. Ask the provider if they are insured and bonded. This will help protect your from liability if someone is hurt while cleaning or installing pumps on your property and will protect you from companies that do not complete the work even after they have been paid. Ask the contractors to give you written price quotes for the services that you need. After you have talked to several companies, you should be able to compare the price quotes to help you decide which companies have the best prices. Pay attention to the level of courtesy they use when answering your questions so you can decide how much they value your business.
