Scuba Diving Instruction & Equipment

Professional divers are professionally certified, with jobs ranging in training for commercial diving and search and rescue. Divers are also needed in the military and law enforcement. In order to become a professional diver, one must put in a set amount of hours in classroom lessons, along with swimming pool and open water sessions.

Professionals that offer instruction courses on scuba diving should be knowledgeable about all areas of diving. They also should be patient and engaging. In many cases, places that sell or rent scuba equipment, goggles, and safety gear also offer lessons. This is true of vacation spots, in a swimming facility or gym, and at the beach.

Rental shops located in tourist spots often rent basic equipment like fins, vests, accessories, masks, and oxygen tanks. Specialty dive shops or schools may rent or sell more sophisticated, high-end equipment. They sell breathing apparatus items, open circuit regulators, closed and semi closed rebreathers, and mouth pieces. They may also feature a section of used equipment, or new snorkel gear. Many also feature a full line of state-of-the-art diving watches as well.

Teens and adults looking to sign up for scuba instruction for certification can inquire at fitness centers, schools, and with private instructors. They can expect to find out about lesson prices, rental rates, availability, and duration upon first speaking with an instructor. Such instructors must be certified and licensed.

During lessons, students will learn a variety of scuba basics. They will learn how to put on a wet suit and fins and how to regulate their air tanks. Many certification courses offer in-class instruction focusing on areas like dive theory and advanced open water dives. Some recreational online classes are even free.

But to really learn to dive, students must get underwater with the instructor and learn the ropes.

If you want to learn how to scuba dive before going on vacation, you can find a facility near you even if you don't live near the ocean. Many centers will have tanks that will teach beginners the basics of scuba diving. Instructions will range in price depending on the company and the amount of information they go over during classes. Many vacation resorts will have basic training to teach people about the gear they will be using, such as goggles, wet suits, and their breathing apparatus. Others will teach about safety practices, rescue procedures, and give information on open, semi-closed, and closed circuit rebreathers. You may find a facility that only works with commercial companies or the military to give scuba diving instructions. Search the Internet or look online to find one that offers classes or private lessons for the general public. If you're on vacation and chose to scuba dive for a day, the company may give free lessons in the beginning so you won't have to worry about finding a place on your own. Whether you need training for your job or for recreation, you will need to learn the same things. Mouth pieces to give you air while underwater will need to be used, but you will need to learn the proper way to use them. Find an instructor that is licensed to teach scuba diving lessons. Ask how long they have been teaching and if they have the proper certification. If you aren't comfortable with scuba diving, consider trying snorkeling at first to get a better feel for the water. Many centers will have a shop with gear and sets of equipment you will need when swimming, including fins, suits, and goggles.
