Tips for Selecting a Jewelry Designer
The following are some important tips for selecting a jewelry designer.

Tip #1: Know the Designer's Qualifications
A quality jewelry designer should, of course, have years of experience crafting rings, bracelets, and other pieces. You will also want to know where the designer learned his or her craft. An apprenticeship is fine, but make sure you research who the trainer was. Membership in the American Gem Society should not be the only factor that determines your selection, but this membership should definitely be confirmed.

Tip #2: Find Out the Materials and Designs They Specialize In
Some designers will specialize in gold or silver, and others can work with platinum or alloys. Your designer should have experience with the particular metal you want your jewelry to be made from. Each metal has different qualities, so just because someone works wonders with gold does not mean that he or she can produce the same result in sterling silver.

Tip #3: Make Sure the Jewelry Designer Will Stand Behind Their Work
Reputable jewelry designers should only use the highest quality metals and gemstones. An American Gem Society certification means that he or she is capable of distinguishing between high and low quality gemstones. Just in case, though, find out what guarantee your necklace, earrings, or other piece of jewelry comes with. Money back guarantees are common, but may only include a few days to a few weeks. After all, damages could easily occur that are no fault of the designer. In the event of necklaces and bracelets, be sure that at least certain kinds of repairs will be free – at least for a month or two. Make sure you can come back to the designer for periodic cleanings and resizing if necessary.

There are many jewelry designers out there today. This is actually a major business that calls for some real skill and expertise. When working in this line of work, it is common to deal with all kinds of materials, including white gold, platinum, precious stones, silver, and more. After all, consumers expect jewelers to create fine watches, custom wedding rings, high fashion necklace pieces, and even costume jewelry at times. Therefore, it is important for jewelers to know and understand the industry as well as what rates are standard.

In order to become a specialist in the jewelry business, one first needs to acquire the right knowledge and training. While there are some classes available that offer training, it may be more helpful to train under an expert jewelry designer. This way, potential jewelers can learn the tricks of the trade and acquire a better understanding of gold, silver, and platinum materials in a practical setting. A number of software programs and hand tools are used in this field to create perfect stone settings, bridal necklaces, and engagement rings for men and women. Training under an established jeweler can also provide experience with this software. Many people these days are looking for handcrafted or custom bridal pieces. These can include high fashion diamond bracelets, toe ring collections, and fine watches. Different customers will have varying requests.

Jewelers may work with brand name products, gold dealers, and precious stone manufacturers. Of course, they also deal with a variety of clients who are seeking out fine jewelry of many different types.
