Business Profile
Nursing Homes Skilled Nursing Facilities

If you are looking for a career you can be proud of, consider a career in elderly assisted living. As a nursing home professional, you will help seniors maintain their independence while offering them the 24 hour care they may require.

To become an elderly assisted living professional, you will need to go to school and become a licensed, certified, nursing home professional. Most retirement communities require these certifications to ensure the staff is skilled in geriatric and convalescent care. Geriatric care is specifically designed for seniors, and convalescent care is recovery care for people who have suffered illness or injury.

The job can be challenging, as you may interact with seniors who have health ailments that can include arthritis (a disease that affects the joints), Alzheimer’s (a disease that affects the memory), and dementia (a disease that affects brain function). But your ability to provide these seniors with the proper medication and skilled care can help them live a comfortable life. You may also get to plan recreational activities and events for your retirement facility to keep your patients in good spirits.

If you don’t want to be involved in direct patient care, you could also consider owning and operating a retirement home. If you want to open your own retirement home, you may want an advanced degree in business administration.

Whether you decide to work for a private residential retirement home or a public program, helping people remain healthy and comfortable at the end of their lives is an honorable profession.

An elderly assisted living facility might be a good option for you or a loved one. Otherwise known as nursing homes, these retirement communities offer convalescent services to the elderly and ill. As we age, our health care needs can require complex medications and nursing. An elderly assisted living facility specializes in providing these services to seniors. With a skilled, certified staff that works 24 hours a day, you can be sure your geriatric needs are met. No matter what your medical complications, from arthritis to dementia to Alzheimer’s, they will be able to help you. These retirement homes even offer activities for seniors. They work hard to develop an environment similar to your private, residential life. They host events and outings with the staff, so that you can still live your life despite your ailments. Many assisted living facilities can be funded with medical insurance coverage, so talk to your health care provider about your options. The facilities can also range in what they offer, from those that just meet the basic needs of their patients, to some that are more like vacation resorts. To find a facility near you, talk to your loved ones and compare what each home offers. Check that the facility is licensed so that you know you will have access to a skilled and knowledgeable staff. Call ahead and book appointments to tour several facilities until you find the one you like. Choosing assisted living is a big lifestyle change, but it can help you maintain your health wellness in your golden years.
