Questions to Ask Foundation Contractors

Few things are as important to the integrity of your house than its foundation. That means that you will need to find a reliable construction contractor whenever you need to build a new foundation or repair the one that your house currently has. The questions below should help you decide which construction contractors will work well for you.

  • What types of concrete foundations have you built?
There are three main types of concrete foundations: basements, crawl spaces, and slabs. Look for a foundation contractor that has experience building the type that you want for your home.

  • Do you have references so that I can talk to other homeowners about the services they got from your company?
Asking for references makes it possible for you to get information directly from a contractor’s clients. Many people feel that they can trust this information more than what they get from the repair business. A company that can give you references also shows that it maintains a professional attitude and wants you to choose an option that meets your specific needs.

  • Is your company fully insured?
Accidents can happen on a construction site, even during simple jobs. If the company that you hire doesn’t have commercial insurance, then you could find that you are liable for any injuries that take place on your property.

  • Do you provide free inspections?
An inspection should give you an idea of whether you just need to replace a few cracked blocks or install a new underpinning so that your foundation doesn’t buckle.

Foundation contractors must be licensed in order to conduct business. Every state has different requirements, but multiple years of experience and classroom hours must be logged for licenses and certification. Companies that hire contractors to do work for them often conduct a background check to make sure their customers are safe with their employees.

Building and repairing foundations and retaining walls requires an inspection of the land to ensure it's safe to build on. Foundation contractors work with construction teams to build a solid foundation and basement that is strong enough to support the rest of the building. Underpinning contractors will expand the foundation size for homes or businesses that want to increase their space.

Contractors are available to look at a cement foundation and inspect every concrete block and slab to determine if they are uneven, cracked, or sinking. Once the problem area is located, contractors make the necessary repairs as soon as possible. Pillar restorations, basement waterproofing, and footer repairs are available for new and old houses by experienced contractors.

Construction of commercial businesses and residential houses include constructing the building with a level foundation. Concrete foundations that have shifted over time may result in having buckled walls that need to be replaced. Foundation contractors can explain what must be done in order to correct the problem, how much the final cost will be, and how long the process should take. If problems arise when repairs are being made, the contractor notifies the owner about any resulting time or price changes.
