Whether you have boys or girls, chances are they love to visit the toy store. Buying robots, puzzles, dolls, and video games can be fun, especially when you see the look on your child’s face when they enjoy their new prize. But before you shell out big bucks on the latest craze, keep these tips in mind when considering which retail toy store to visit:

Tip #1: Inquire About Extra Services and Membership Rewards
When you purchase a toy or two at your local retailer, you may be able to enjoy extra perks when you are paying at the register. Ask employees if the store offers complementary gift wrapping, which can be a godsend if you’re on your way to a kids’ birthday party and don’t have time to stop off and wrap it. Many of the large toy stores also offer membership cards you can sign up for at no charge. Simply present your card at check out and receive money-saving coupons in the mail for future purchases.

Tip #2: Ask About Return Policies
Nothing can be more frustrating than getting a toy home only to find out it doesn’t work. Or perhaps your child got a puzzle, stuffed animal, action figure, or baby doll as a gift that she already has. Inquire about the store’s exchange or return policy, so you can easily bring back an item with or without a receipt. Many stores will offer store credit if you don’t have a receipt.

Tip #3: Get Updates on Recalled Toys
It seems there are many recalls on unsafe toys at any given time. Before you buy a particular toy, whether toy soldiers, toy chests, or educational games, do your research on any recalls listed regarding that product or any related products.
