If you're switching from petroleum heat or electric appliances to natural gas, you'll need to ask questions from your local gas company to initiate your new service. Also, if you live in a state that has deregulated the utilities industry, you can shop around to different providers to find the lowest cost. When talking with a prospective gas company, it's important to keep a few questions in mind.

  • What do I do to begin using natural gas?
    Explain what you'll use natural gas for in your home or office. What you need to do to switch from oil-based or electric heat to gas may be very different than what it takes to hook up a fireplace, stove, or energy-saving drying machines or to replace propane in an outdoor grill.
