Sausages to Eat and Make Money
If you love sausage making so much, that you want to make a career out of it, you might consider becoming a sausage stuffer. A stuffer mixes the ground pork and other meats with pepper and spices, and makes each link, and may even make sure the meat is cured properly.
You might also want to open your own gourmet specialty shop, where you can sell a variety of Polish and Italian sausage, liverwurst, bratwurst and even kielbasa. You might also offer smoked jerky, pork, bulk hot dogs, and spicy salami. As a shop owner, you will need to keep the shelves stocked, manage the books and set the prices.
If you want to open a shop, you will need to find a meat broker, who can find you a cheap wholesale distributor. A distributor gets the meat from the manufacturer, and acts as the middle man between the factory and your shop. You will need to find a supplier who can provide you will everything you need, so for example, if you need Italian and Polish sausage, smoked jerky and bulk hot dogs at a discount, you will want your broker to help you find the best supplier.
The education needed for these careers can be varied, as many people get into the business through a family shop or apprenticeship, but a degree in business may be helpful if you want to be a store owner, broker or work in distribution. And of course, if you get into the sausage business, you could have a love of sausage that can’t be cured.
