Questions to Ask a Modular Home Dealer

If you have a plan to move into a modular home, there are some things you might want to ask your dealer before starting the relocation process. Many people often dream of one day owning a house and thanks to our ability to manufacture low-cost modular buildings, that dream can be a reality for most anyone. Contact a dealer to get started with the process, and keep these thoughts in mind.

  • Where do you build your products?
You could purchase a prefabricated kit and build or assemble the home yourself for a lower cost. You also have the option of purchasing an already built trailer or mobile home. Usually these will be built on the dealer's site and transported to the area in which you'll be residing.

  • Does the house have to be located in a mobile home community?
A trailer park is planned community found in many cities. Some areas will not allow you to construct a mobile home on your own property, so you'll have to check with the county for restrictions and laws.

  • Do I need a contractor if I purchase a kit?
A builder will manufacture a prefab home to meet your specifications. Customized home kits are usually made so that the pieces can be handled by just two people, and all the components are clearly labeled for easy assembly. That being said, if you're even mildly skilled in the area of woodworking you should be able to put the home up just fine on your own.

  • How much does a mobile home usually cost?
While it depends on the area, it's usually more cost effective to purchase a mobile home rather than a standard house. Some people will choose to downgrade to a mobile home as their children grow up and move out, or some just need to save money.

Modular home dealers should have extensive experience in this industry, utilizing their backgrounds in sales, business, or construction to bring a quality product to the customer. Excellent sales skills are needed in this business, and a knowledge of building is a plus.

Modular home dealers offer lots of services to their clients, including financing, custom plans, personalized project management, warranties, and custom design services. Online offerings can range from full color product catalogs to free quotes to sample blueprints.

Because of their reduced costs, energy efficiency, and higher craftsmanship, modular homes are desirable for many home buyers. Finding a qualified builder and manufacturer is an important task. Builders should possess many years of experience constructing one story prefabricated homes, or even two story homes. They should know the ins and outs of how to transport and assemble the units of a home, whether it is a log cabin or a large house.

Modular home dealers should go over detailed floor plans with the home buyer to ensure the layout is what he or she wants. This could include a family room, kitchen, multiple baths and bedrooms, and more. Whether modern or traditional in nature, prefabricated modular homes are often greener than their counterparts. This is often a big draw for buyers, as it saves them lots of money in the long run in regards to energy costs.

Modular home dealers, wholesalers, and manufacturers may also sell additions for remodels. They offer many personalized services to customers to ensure a quick, efficient building process with brand new materials assembled in climate controlled factory warehouses.
