Architects Residential

Being a residential architect can be an exciting career, with a big salary and lots of responsibilities. However, one will need to spend at least eight years in college to obtain a bachelor's and master's degree. Special skills to have include a creative imagination, excellent drawing skills, a steady hand, and proficiency in oral and written communications. To be an architect, one needs to possess literacy in computers, engineering, and interior designing. Post-college internships are also usually mandatory. Students must pass the state's Architect Registration Examination (ARE) to obtain a license or permit.

Because residential architects are involved in all phases of construction and renovation projects, they must work well with others to come up with a workable design that flows well. They must stick to the budget, and they must also be able to work well within tight deadlines.

Once licensed, a residential architect may break out and specialize in a certain area. Some choose to go the environmentally conscious route, using sustainable building materials in their designs and floor plans. Some work on mansions, while others work on small modern houses or urban spaces. Many architects work in their own studio, such as in their home or small office, while others are employed by large architectural firms.

Architects must take all interior components of a house and make them flow together, incorporating the floors plans of all rooms, doors, windows, and foundations. Exterior components, such as the surrounding landscape, must meld well with the home or other structure to provide an overall style that works for the occupants. Landscape art is one area where architects may excel.

Architects use a drafting table, but they also use computers, software, and other high-tech devices to assist them with their jobs in construction of houses and buildings.

Residential architects provide an essential service to homeowners around the country. Whether people need assistance designing a new section of their house, or are interested in building an entirely new residence, architects play a critical role in realizing these goals. Along with contributing to the design, building and construction process of various residential structures, these professionals provide many other services as well. For instance, residential architects often help homeowners plan and build the outdoor landscape of their property. In addition to landscape design, they may help clients with the interior of their houses. As an example, workers in this field may design the doors, windows and other fixtures in a client's bedroom or kitchen. Moreover, architects commonly advise their clients on ways to incorporate sustainable materials into the renovation and construction process. Professionals also commonly help homeowners find the proper permits necessary to complete their renovation projects. More information about an architectural firm’s services can often be found online. A firm’s website typically contains detailed information about their employees. Most firms employ professionals with a wide range of experience in many architectural styles. For instance, some workers may specialize in renovating large mansions. Others may have expertise in designing small ranch houses. Along with staffing information, many firm websites provide details of their modern drafting studios, along with photographs of their previous design projects. Becoming a licensed residential architect can be a lucrative and rewarding career. In addition to the high salary a professional in this field often receives, many workers find great satisfaction in helping homeowners build a foundation that will last the rest of their lives.
